International Ice Climbing World Cup Competition Coming to Longmont
Longmont’s locally-owned Climbing Collective successfully bids to host the UIAA event: February 21-23, 2025
Longmont, CO, May 28, 2024 —Longmont Climbing Collective (LCC) is bringing the Ice Climbing and Dry Tooling World Cup back to the U.S. for the first time since 2019. The international competition is governed by the UIAA – the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation, which hosts qualifying and youth events throughout the year and across the globe. LCC has agreed to a 5-year partnership to host the event in Longmont.
The event was last held in the U.S. in Denver, Colorado, six years ago, attracting thousands of spectators. Over two hundred athletes from twenty-six countries competed in the overall World Cup Lead and Speed categories.
Ice climbing has grown in popularity since it debuted as an exhibition sport at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The sport is a natural fit for the mountain and traditional climbing community in Colorado, where popular events happen in Ouray, Loveland, and soon Longmont.
“Bringing an event like the World Cup back to the U.S. is exciting because it supports our mission to serve new and experienced climbers,” said Bryan Hylenski, CEO and co-owner of Climbing Collective. “This event will exemplify the collaborative spirit of Longmont businesses to work together to grow revenue and reinvest in our community.”
