Training to Improve Grip Strength

Not excited about your current grip numbers? The good news is that grip strength is highly trainable, even later in life. In addition to climbing at least 2–3 times per week, you can layer in simple, focused exercises to accelerate progress.

Wrist Curls

Using two dumbbells or a barbell, perform 2 sets of 10–20 reps of wrist curls twice per week after a climbing session. Control the movement on both the way up and the way down, and choose a weight that challenges you while maintaining good form.
